Tribute to Rachael Flatt : Fire on Ice

If there could be a mirror of California among the skaters, it would be Rachael Flatt. Between a vibrating landscape with beautiful beaches and the dazzling lights of Hollywood, from California to Colorado, the current national champion has become a real fighter on the ice and is one of these ice queens that America cherishes. She can execute jumps perfectly and offers a festival of triples. She couples enthusiasm, simplicity and performance with a strong mental. But before all, it's her spontaneous smile of happiness which makes her so unique- recalling the sun of California, her home state. Similarly to the movie stars who reach their dreams on the red carpet, Flatt has achieved hers on the white ice surface.

She just celebrated her 18 birthday, at the end of a fantastic season in which she realized two of her dreams: become the new U.S. Senior Champion and accomplish her olympic dream ending at the 7th place with a tremendous performance at Vancouver. Two objectives that she achieved with success !!!! She is now one of the top 10 ladies in the world.

The USA has been a country famous for its great ice battles. Becoming one of the American ice goddesses among a generation made up of new talents such as Ashley Wagner, Mirai Nagasu, or Alissa Cizny, and the come back of the retired ice queen Sasha Cohen. Because talent does not depend on age, Flatt has already had an amazing career at only seventeen. In the last 3 years the two-times U.S. Senior Silver medalist (2008 and 2009) won the 2008 Junior Worlds and placed 5th at the 2009 World Championships for her first Senior season.
Not only is Flatt a great ice skater, she is also a brilliant student. She has just graduated from High School. When she is not on the ice, Flatt is particularly interested in reading. Her favourite books are «The Da Vinci Code» and «Angels and Demons». Generosity is also one of this girl’s qualities, as proves her participation to various shows on ice, such as «Skate for Hope», dedicated to a cause. But Flatt is also generous off-ice, sharing her passion for books, especially as a spokesperson for "Reading is Fundamental", the largest non-profit reading organization in the USA.

Moving from California to Colorado to get better training conditions, Flatt’s favourite jumps are the triple flip and the triple salchow. Her figure skater models are Scott Hamilton and Michelle Kwan, but she also admires Michael Phelps and Lance Amstrong. Apart from reading, Flatt loves going out to the beaches with her friends or her two dogs named Fred and Ethel, listening to the piano, and enjoying her mom's homemade gnocchi and four-cheese ravioli with pesto sauce.

”Generosity, fighting and performance”: in sum, the new American Ice queen.
